Massacio was an Italian painter born in modern-day Tuscany in 1401. Living until only 1428, Massacio made significant contributions to the development of art in his short life of 27 years. Massacio was the painter who originally brought linear perspective to his paintings to show the depth and to make paintings seem to be closer to 3d image then 2d. The incorporation of linear perspective in his work allowed for a realistic appearance of dimensions and distance. Masaccio's most famous paintings are, The Trinity and The Expulsion from the Garden of Eden. The Trinity shows Jesus Christ on the cross. The painting uses linear perspective to show Jesus underneath what seems to be a chapel. The Trinity, unlike Giotto's works, shows the Renaissance development of perspective. The Expulsion from the Garden of Eden displays Adam and Eve after being expelled from the Garden of Eden. The fresco which is located in Santa Maria del Carmine in Florence was censored (In the picture below the left version is censored). This painting that is located in a church was censored due to the fact that many people found it inappropriate to have a naked man which was Adam and a naked Women who was Eve just publicly hung up on a wall. Massacio's contribution of perspective was perhaps the most important artistic development of the Renaissance.
